Causes and effects of water damage

Water can leak from old pipes as well as due to heavy rain, corroded tubing, and faulty water lines. Whichever it is, it is a disaster. You will see the affected area getting soaked and becoming damp. Soon, the area becomes musty. The walls will also become discoloured. You would not want this at all. If the water keeps dripping for at least 36 hours, the more you wait, the worse it will get. The longer that damage is left to fester and grow, the higher the chance of irreparable harm being done will become a reality.

Solution? Flood restoration services Most companies hired to clean up clutter begin with an aggressive approach by breaking down waterlogged walls and structures. They also tear up ruined carpets and sometimes the wooden floors, too.

However, such companies are missing a very important aspect of flood recovery: carpet drying. You need to dry the room first, but many pipe cleaners don't do this simply because it takes too long.

Our process

The restoration process requires the use of dehumidifiers to rid the carpets of the smell and the mould. A wet carpet is dehumidified with air movers and is dried thoroughly to prevent any mould from growing. Mostly, the carpet padding is replaced if our professional suggests so. Our trained team uses cutting-edge equipment such as water claws to extract as much water as possible.

After the team is done with their procedures, they ensure that the carpets are clean, dry, and safe to use. CleaningPro offers professional water damage restoration and carpet drying services in Wellington. Once the carpets have been dried, we sanitise them to ensure that they're 100% safe to use. Do not worry about a damaged carpet. We will make them look completely new.

Wet Carpet Restoration

Flood water removal is very important when it comes to carpet restoration. Using modern equipment to remove water from the wet carpet with minimal damage to it, we are known to be one of the best water damage restoration technicians in Wellington. We use the latest structural drying methods to quickly, efficiently, and cheaply get the work done. In most cases, we are able to return the room to its pre-flood condition. Each metre of carpet is tested with a digital moisture metre to ensure dryness. Thus, you don't need to worry.

Why should I get a professional carpet drying service?

Damaged pipes, leaking roofs, and other related water damage should never be ignored.

Minimal leakage and cracks in one of the pipes can spread into other pipes very easily, and not just the mould is what you will have to get rid of, but this can be hazardous to the health of your family members as well.

Too much moisture can do the following:

  1. Make bacteria and mould grow in the affected place
  2. Air quality is compromised in the house
  3. Damages to the structure and foundation
  4. Will cost you an arm and a leg to fix

Don't want these? Then you should hire the best water damage restoration service providers in Wellington if you notice any relevant signs.

The Water Restoration Process:

With a thorough inspection of walls, ceilings, and floors, we provide an end-to-end solution and revival to any property damaged by water damage or flood.

Step 1: Inspection

Only an expert can actually assess the damage caused by floods to your property. The inspection is designed and performed to determine the volume of water damage. By putting the damage caused by water into different categories, we can come up with a plan for how to fix the damage caused by floods.

Classification of Damage caused by floodwater

Class 1 pertains to the minimal absorption of water and moisture that is only seeping into "some" parts of the room. (Less than 5% of the total buildings are affected by the flood.

Class 2: Up to 40% of the area may be affected, including the walls and the carpets.

Class 3: More than 40% of the area has been affected. This is one of the most hazardous flood-effect scenarios and is expensive to deal with. The ceilings are usually in the worst condition in such cases.

Class 4: special category damage, where the water damages surfaces like stone, hardwood, and concrete. Such damage requires special drying equipment and techniques for effective restoration.

Categories of Flood Damage

Category 1: water damage that is caused by clean water sources such as cracked or leaking water pipes, malfunctioning flush tanks, etc. It is important to realise that category 1 water damage, if not paid heed to, can transform into categories 2 and 3. You need to get it fixed immediately.

Category 2: This is a serious type of damage caused by grey water that carries detergent leaking from the dishwasher or washing machine spills. Urine contamination by toilet leaks also falls under this category.

Category 3: This is the most severe class of water damage. This kind of leakage includes toxic water being leaked, which can also lead to diseases as it introduces a different kind of bacteria into the environment. This is also called a blackwater flood. Such damage is caused by sewers, natural floods, and other forms of stagnant infectious water that carry dangerous microscopic life forms.

Step 2: Water removal from the property

We prepare custom water removal plans using our powerful vacuum and suction pumps. The type of equipment used is related to the nature of the water damage. Our top priority is to remove water to stop the possible growth of bacteria and fungi.

Step 3: Drying the affected area

After removing and pumping the damaging water from your property, the next step is dehumidification, which dries out any existing moisture. It is an important step in flood and water damage restoration because moisture can lead to excessive growth of rot and mould. The drying process can usually take several days, depending on the nature and extent of the water damage. Our services also include wet carpet drying.

Step 4: Cleaning of household items

Household utensils are easily damaged by water. We make sure that all household items and personal belongings are thoroughly cleaned without any further damage. This disinfection is necessary to ensure the prevention of bacteria thriving on its surface and the formation of fungi. As a standard, we treat all affected personal clothing, curtains, and carpets with antimicrobial chemicals for complete decontamination. We use air purifiers to clean the air of suspended particles and moisture, which improves the air quality in the building.

Step 5: restoration

The most critical step in restoration The drywall and insulation material will have to be replaced. If the damage is less, changing a few panels may do the trick. Serious conditions can even lead to the entire wall being replaced. We at CleaningPro eliminate all toxins and hazardous substances like lead. If your home was built more than 25 years ago and you are facing water damage issues in Wellington, you should make it quick and get professional help.

Water damage might also go undetected, especially when there is minimal water leakage. How can you know about it? You'd start to notice mould growing in confined spaces. If you see it, you need to hurry. Getting rid of such damage is painstaking.

The clock is ticking

It is important to act appropriately regardless of the degree of damage. Water damage restoration needs to be done, and all of the water-affected materials and contaminants need to be removed promptly. As per the EPA's recommendations, any material that has remained wet and un-cleaned for 48 hours needs to be disposed of as soon as possible. Such material becomes home to microorganisms that reproduce insanely in a short span of time. While not disposing of the material timely can be hazardous, it also compromises the quality of the air your family will breathe in. You wouldn't want that.
